Library refurbishment decision due

Published Monday, 14 October 2013

Senior councillors are poised to agree on Wednesday (Oct 16) to the £4.45 million refurbishment of Palmers Green Library.

Enfield Council’s cabinet will decide whether to proceed with the scheme following the decision to sell the Southgate Town Hall site earlier this year, if agreed it is planned for construction work to start in July next year.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Youth and Localism, Cllr Bambos Charalambous, said: “Should we proceed with the redevelopment of the library we will consult extensively with users so that the services it provides are the ones that people actually want.

“If we go ahead with these plans there would be an extensive range of resources that people can borrow, as well as Wi-Fi facilities and public access computers.

“We are absolutely committed to providing first rate facilities for our communities and upgrading and improving the services we currently have. Should this development go ahead we’d look to significantly improve Palmers Green Library to make sure it can provide everything a 21st century facility should.”

If cabinet decides against the refurbishment, the council will look for alternative ways of improving the facility in the future.
