School moves out of special measures

Published Tuesday, 23 July 2013

Broomfield School is celebrating its Ofsted report which takes it out of special measures.

The school in Wilmer Way, N14 has made impressive progress in less than the usual two years.

New headteacher, Peter Travis, said, “We still have some way to go, but it is encouraging to know that we are on course. We have a strong leadership team, positive governors, a determined staff, enthusiastic students and parents and receive excellent support from Enfield Council which has helped us to build a strong foundation for improvement and aim high for our pupils.”

Ofsted inspectors state, “The headteacher and his senior team have been relentless in their drive to improve standards at the school.”

They note, “The current sixth form students are making good progress in their learning and achieving their targets.”

The inspectors were impressed that checks on teaching are robust and there is effective monitoring, support and training to improve teaching.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said, “It is a colossal achievement to transform a school and take it out of special measures so quickly. I congratulate everyone at Broomfield where so much progress has been made.”
