World Champion swimmer to hold training camp at Southbury Leisure Centre..

Promising young swimmers are being given the opportunity to train with one of Britain’s greatest sport stars this month as Mark Foster’s Swimming Academy sets up camp at Southbury Leisure Centre.

The Swim Camp will take place on 28 May, and is open to 11 to 18 year olds who are keen to improve their swimming technique and learn from some of the best swimmers in the country.

As well as six times world champion, Mark Foster, swimmers will also be coached by backstroke world champion, Katy Sexton and  have access to advice and training tips from former international swimmers and sports scientists.

The camp will focus on the latest land training theories, flexibility and core training, with lectures on race preparation, using stroke drills and technique points to increase speed and generate faster race times.

Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Youth and Localism said “We are absolutely delighted to welcome swimming champions Mark and Katy to Southbury Leisure Centre. I believe it is going to be a really exciting opportunity for the young people that attend.

"Enfield is rightly proud of its commitment to keep the Olympic legacy alive, and have an ongoing determination to encourage sport and healthy lifestyles in all our residents.

“Satisfaction with leisure services are also increasing according to the last Residents Survey, and we want to keep it that way.

“Mark’s visit is a wonderful example of the commitment that Enfield Council and Fusion have to provide a special range of events for the community.”

Mark Foster said of the event: “I am so pleased to be working with young talented swimmers; it is great to put back my experiences into a sport I love and which has served me so well. I know that our training team will inspire those that attend, and can’t wait to meet everyone on the day.

“The swim camp is designed to help swimmers understand the full make up of a competitive swimmer by looking at the crucial elements of mind set, nutrition, and land training with a difference! Plus swimming techniques to improve your speed.”

Southbury Leisure Centre is run by registered charity Fusion Lifestyle, in partnership with Enfield Council and offers a great range of health and fitness facilities. Memberships are available at great value for all in the community and as a registered charity Fusion re-invests all monies received back into improving sport and leisure facilities locally.
