Unity is the byword at new youth hub

Published Wednesday, 01 May 2013

Young people in Edmonton now have the youth centre of their dreams. It’s a superb custom-built facility designed by local young people for 13 – 19 year olds to enjoy spending leisure time and activities together.

This is the ‘Unity Hub at Craig Park’ in Edmonton N18.

Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure & Youth, said, “Here they can learn new computer graphics skills in the media suite; plan singing and dance performances in the studio, and take part in cooking, sport, art and drama with friends.

“I am so proud of the young people who have worked so hard to develop this centre. It is now over three years since they won £3.5 million pounds from the government’s My Place fund in 2009 to develop it.
“Encouraged and supported by the council, they have planned not only a world class youth facility, but also a place for the local community.”

A number of experienced team leaders are ready to welcome young people and help them plan and improve their job prospects.

Some can take specialist courses learning to become youth leaders, others will be able to make videos and music, choreograph dance routines, write plays and perform them – it’s a place where young people can grow and mature, limited only by their own imagination.

‘Exposure’, an award winning media youth group, has been commissioned by Enfield Council’s Youth Support Service to lead a media-learning programme.

Young people will be able to develop their graphics skills using the latest equipment and software and learning from experienced professionals.

They will be encouraged to work in their own time and at their own pace gradually mastering and perfecting their design skills.

Cllr Charalambous, continued, “By investing in ‘Exposure’ we are expanding opportunities for young people. An appealing programme will attract young people to learn more. It’s a real mix of learning and fun in a great environment.

“Unity Hub at Craig Park is a centre that will establish friendship and ambition among young people and bring renewed hope and vigour to the area.”
