Temporary library is ready for business

Published Friday, 26 April 2013

It may be a modular building, but 65 Ordnance Road, Enfield is operating as a fully fitted library while the old Ordnance Road library building is demolished.

Since the old building closed on Saturday 13 April to make way for a new public centre accommodating a library, doctors’ surgery, dentists and community hall, 65 Ordnance Road has been prepared for public use.

Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for leisure and cultural services, said, “The temporary library is a light airy modern space offering most of the services that local people expect.

“In just two weeks work has progressed smoothly with the installation of heating, toilets, phones, carpets and furniture, computers for public use and over 5,000 items to borrow plus newspapers and periodicals.

“At the library, adults, young people and children can enjoy a full range of activities from story times and toy play times for the very young to projects, fun games and the Work Club sessions on Mondays 9am - 1pm.

“There are also computers for public use and our latest computerised renewals system. We have made sure that our library service continues as before and I hope people will make good use of it until our new one is ready in 2014.”

The temporary library is open: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9am - 8pm; Friday 9am - 5.30pm and Saturday 9am - 5pm. Sunday and Wednesday closed.
