Over 1,500 Enfield residents affected by the government’s benefit cap have been informed about a local jobs fair organised by Enfield Council, Job Centre Plus and Barnet & Southgate College.

Benefit Cap & Jobs Advice Fair

Enfield is one of four boroughs piloting the benefits cap in April before it is rolled out over the whole country later this year. It means that many families will not be eligible to receive more than £500 a week in benefit payments.

Cllr Del Goddard, cabinet member for regeneration, said, “Many families living in Enfield do not receive any where near £500 a week, but most of the benefit payments that they do get goes on rent in the private sector leaving little for other expenses.

“The Council has been working with Job Centre Plus to attract local employers, skills trainers, and specialist advisers to the event on Friday. I want to encourage all benefits claimants to attend. They can find out about moving into work, child care, housing benefit and managing their money.”

Enfield Job Centre Manager, Rob Barry, added, “This fair has a lot on offer: local jobs, training opportunities and practical advice. There is something to gain for all those who attend.”

Employers at the fair with vacancies include: Enfield Council, Westminster Care Home, Whittington Hospital , Hairdressers of Black Origin and ASDA.
