Sensory Awareness Impairment Day

Published Wednesday, 30 September 2009

Everyone who has a sensory impairment, whether visual or hearing, is welcome to come along to a very special event to be held at Park Avenue Resource Centre this week.

There are a number of guest speakers, including the RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind) and the RNID (Royal National Institute for the Deaf). There will also be an opportunity to listen to other people speak about the problems they have faced, and also a market stall offering information on the services and equipment which is available to providers which allow people with a sensory impairments to access and receive an appropriate service.

Lunch and refreshments are provided.

Cllr Edward Smith, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services said "When people begin to lose the ability to see or hear, it has a major impact on their lives.

"But there are many people and services who can help make their lives a little easier with the assistance of aids and adaptations, and useful information such as signposting appropriate medical services, or putting them in touch with groups who understand the issues.

"This event is essential for anyone who has a sensory impairment, or their family or carers."
