It's good to talk - about recycling

Published Monday, 28 January 2013

Residents will be able to get recycling advice and encouragement at a pair of events in Enfield designed to increase recycling rates by showing why it’s a good thing to do and how to recycle more efficiently.

The events, organised by the North London Waste Authority and supported by Enfield Council are taking place at Edmonton Green Shopping Centre on Friday 1 February and Chase Side, Southgate on Saturday 16 February between 10am and 4pm.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Chris Bond, said: "Our staff will be on hand to talk to residents about recycling and what the benefits are to the community and they'll also be showing how much rubbish an average household creates if it were to recycle everything it possibly could - which is a real eye opener.

"Our residents are very much in favour of recycling and work really hard to help us divert as much waste away from landfill as we possibly can. At present our recycling rates mean we save £1 million a year in landfill tax, money that we can plough back into our services. But events like these help enormously because they give people tips about how to recycle more efficiently and they're a bit of fun as well, so its well worth paying a visit if you can."

Residents will also be asked to sign a pledge to recycle more card in return for being entered into a prize draw.
