Mobility is the key

Enfield Council is gearing up for Christmas with a festive drive to encourage people who have difficulty walking long distances to use its Shopmobility Service.

The free service runs between Monday and Friday at the Civic Centre in Enfield and between Tuesday and Saturday at Edmonton Green Shopping Centre and has a selection of electric scooters, powered and manual wheelchairs for use by visitors to the borough's Town Centres.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Chris Bond, said: "Our Shopmobility service is an asset to the community and plays a vital role in helping residents access the superb range of shops and services available in Enfield Town Centre and Edmonton Green Shopping Centre.

"Christmas is coming and we want more people to use this service, get out and about in the town centre, enjoy the festive events we are organising and give our local shops a bit of a boost in December, we're a business friendly council and this is just one of the ways we're looking to encourage people into our town centres at this time of the year."

At present the shopmobility service is used by an average of 40 people a month in Enfield and 290 a month in Edmonton Green, people can sign up for membership of the service completely free of charge by providing two forms of identification showing their name and address and ringing 020 8379 1193.
