Enfield’s Paralympic Festival showcases sports for everyone 28 August-8 September

Inclusive sport takes centre stage as the Paralympic Festival kicks off in Enfield.  The council’s ‘Everybody Active Team’ is holding a series of events and opportunities celebrating the 2012 Paralympic Games.

People with disabilities can take part in a number of sporting activities from 28th August to 8th September.

Events include gym inductions at local leisure centres and sports tasters in trampolining, dodgeball, Zumba, swimming, football, and more, all taught by qualified coaches in a relaxed atmosphere. Friends, family and other members of the community are welcome to take part as well.

People interested in learning about disability equality can take a short online training course, ‘Be Inclusive & Active’. It is free to do and only takes two hours to complete.

Don’t miss the Town Show on 1 & 2 September, where there will be a display of some of the Paralympic events that feature in the Games as well as Signdance, a performance group made up of blind and deaf artists.

Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Enfield Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Youth and Localism, said: “With the best Paralympians competing in front of the world right now, this is a great opportunity for people to see how they can get involved in sports, no matter their ability or level.

“These sessions are fully inclusive and open to all to come and try.”

The sports taster sessions are free and open to everyone. For more information about the events, visit our sports website or call the Everybody Active Team on 020 8379 3762.
