Fantastic Fun Run and Fun Walk to raise money for Mayor’s Charities

Published Friday, 17 August 2012

Runners inspired by the recent scenes of medal-winning finishes can lace up their trainers for a great day out on 9 September 2012.

The annual 10km and 3km Fun Run and 3km Fun Walk, organised by the Enfield Everybody Active Team in support of the Mayor’s Charity, will take in the beautiful grounds of the newly refurbished Forty Hall.

Last year around 900 people took part, competing in either the 10km Fun Run for ages 16+, the 3km Fun Run for ages 6+ or the 3km Fun Walk for all ages.

This year will also have a Family Fun Day from 10am to 1pm in celebration of the closing of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the pony rides, circus skills workshop, bouncy castle, football and more for only £3.50.

Money raised from the Fun Run, Fun Walk and Family Fun Day will be donated to the Mayor’s chosen charities: the Enfield Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Organisation, North Middlesex Maternity Unit, Our Voice; a parent-led organisation aiming to improve services for children and young people with disabilities or special educational needs, and the Tottenham Hotspur E18HTEEN project, supporting young people aged 16-19 who are either in care or are care leavers into education and employment.

Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Kate Anolue, said: “After seeing so many stunning performances in the Olympic and Paralympic Games, everyone can show their athletic side and take part in these fun races.

“Whether you participate as an individual, a family, a work group, or even volunteer to marshal, we guarantee a great day out.

“People can show their support by sponsoring a runner or walker, too. The money we raise will help make a real difference to the lives of the people supported by these fantastic local organisations.

“We are very pleased to have Tottenham Hotspur as our platinum sponsor this year. It is with their support we have been able to expand this year’s event.”

Prizes for this year include a Spurs stadium tour and a family annual pass to Capel Manor. All competitors will receive a free T-shirt and a medal.

People can register to participate by filling out the entry form on www.enfield.gov.uk/funrun by 3 September. No entries will be allowed on the day. Numbers are limited, so people are encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment.
