The young runners were recruited by the Council’s Everybody Active Team for the road race which was held on the same morning of the Virgin London Marathon (22nd April, 2012). The three mile route began at Old Billingsgate, passed along Embankment and finished at the Mall.

Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Enfield Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Youth and Localism, said: “This was a terrific chance for our young people to watch the best athletes in the world in action.

“They’ve already showed great potential by competing in the Virgin London Mini Marathon, and watching Britain’s finest athletes at the Olympics could inspire them to take their sporting ambitions to the next step.

“Enfield Council is determined to do our part in training the next generation of great athletes. Taking them to the Olympics is a great way of showing what can be achieved through dedication and effort.”

Tickets for attending an Olympic athletics event were provided to all participants in the 2012 Mini London Marathon. The tickets were purchased by the London Marathon through UK Athletics ticket allocation who have made them available in order to support grass roots athletics.
