Green Gym'll fix it for park workouts

Published Wednesday, 04 July 2012

Enfield Council and the Friends of Broomfield Park have officially opened a fantastic outdoor Green Gym, designed to help people get active and enjoy the outdoors while doing so.

The 12 items of robust and weatherproof gym equipment, including both cardiovascular and body strengthening exercise equipment, are positioned on a specially designed hard standing. The project was initiated by the Friends of the Park who were granted £33,780 from the Council's Enfield Residents Priority Fund, split across the three wards of Southgate Green, Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Chris Bond, said: "This fantastic project ticks all the boxes for helping people to live more active lives and encouraging people to visit our superb parks for all sorts of different reasons.

"I'd strongly recommend that residents dust off their sports gear and pay the Green Gym in Broomfield Park a visit."

Henrietta Burton, from the Friends of Broomfield Park, was one of the people responsible for delivering the project. She said: "We are delighted that we've been able to provide high quality gym equipment for Broomfield Park users and we hope to build a thriving community of outdoor exercisers in Palmers Green.

"We'll continue to work closely with the Council to maintain and improve Broomfield Park and we hope this is just the latest of what will be many improvements made to this fantastic open space."
