Enfield Council launches hunt for lead thieves

Published Monday, 05 March 2012

This week Enfield Council appealed for any witnesses to the recent thefts of lead which have occurred at Forty Hall, a Jacobean mansion in Enfield currently undergoing major renovations.

Lead was stolen at Forty Hall

Security has been stepped up on site and other precautions have been taken to prevent further thefts, however the hunt for the thieves continues.

Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture said “These thefts are nothing more than a disgusting vandalism of a beautiful historical building that Enfield Council has been renovating over recent months.

“Our security guards have been threatened, and the thieves have turned up with vans to remove the lead. It is disgraceful. Everytime we have to replace the lead this costs money which we then cannot spend on other vital services.

“Someone must know something about this, or been offered lead at bargain prices. If anyone knows about these thefts and attacks on Forty Hall I would urge them to contact the police.

“It is not just us losing the lead but every time the lead is ripped off it destroys the fabric of the building further.

“We are determined to do everything we can to stop this happening."

If anyone knows anything about these lead thefts they are asked to contact Enfield Police on 020 8345 1139 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or go online at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information-online/
