Disused hostels sold to increase housing

Published Friday, 24 February 2012

Enfield Council has successfully sold four unused hostels for a total of £5,739,000.

Andrew Stafford - Labour Councillor

The hostels all required significant future investment to both upgrade the size and quality of the accommodation and address the current high maintenance costs attached to the lifts, security systems and facilities within the blocks. All tenants who were resident there had been moved out earlier.

Cllr Andrew Stafford, Cabinet Member for Property said “It is good news that we have sold these properties and exceeded expectations regarding sale values. The money raised will now be invested into regeneration and refurbishment projects in the rest of the Council's housing stock.

"Enfield Council is determined to improve the quality of council housing in the borough, and this money will go a long way towards achieving that"

The Council has a 30 year Housing Business Plan which will improve both the living conditions of tenants and local neighbourhoods.
