Power of Dreams final sees talent at its best

Twelve talented finalists competed in three categories in front of a full and enthusiastic audience at Millfield Arts Centre last Wednesday to be crowned the winner of the ‘Power of Dreams Final’.

The Enfield Council sponsored event saw singers competing in the Over 16’s and Under 16’s categories, with rappers and dancers together in the Urban category. The twelve finalists had advanced to the finals on the 15th after two days of auditions in which over sixty young people entered.

The evening kicked off with performances from three former winners and emceed throughout by performance artist Poet. The contestants were given feedback from each of four judges after their performance.

Sue Green - Dancer and founder of dance website Dancetothis.com

Cllr Christine Hamilton, Cabinet Member for Community Safety said “I was amazed at the talent of the young people who performed at the Millfield Arts Centre last week.

“The Under 16 winner Edwyna’s performance attracted praise from the judges, who said that she sang with a maturity beyond her years.

“The dancer Nathan’s routine was self-choreographed and mixed lyrical hip-hop with popping and even dancehall.

The winner in the Over 16’s category, Bianca Jay Lewis, warmed up the crowd with a cappella version of a Rihanna song before breaking into a soulful performance of Erykah Badu’s hit, 'Window Seat'.

“It was a truly entertaining evening, and I hope that everyone who performed at the Millfield feels it has kick-started their performance career.”

All participants were awarded certificates with the winning singers getting two days in a professional recording studio.

The winner of the Urban category won an Adidas hoodie, Sony Headphones and time at a local studio.

All acts received high street vouchers as runners up in the finals.
