Taggers sought after vandalism in Trent Park

Published Monday, 10 October 2011

Cllr Chris Bond, Cabinet Member for Environment has called for witnesses to the vandalism of a historic local landmark which took place in Trent Park last weekend.

After a ‘rave’ last Saturday the historic obelisk, which was brought to the park by Sir Philip Sassoon in 1934 for the Duke and Duchess of Kent, was vandalised by offensive graffiti.

Enfield Council’s Graffiti Action Team leapt into action to ensure the tags was cleaned up straight away after being recorded, and the graffiti run through the tags database to see if any of the marks were recognised. The Environment department used specialist chemicals which are used on heritage sites.

Cllr Bond said “We will fight these individuals wherever they turn up and vandalise historic artefacts in the borough. Using new technology and materials we are geared up to deal with this sort of problem and will be vigilant in the coming weeks.

“I would appeal for anyone who has any idea who did this appalling vandalism to get in touch with the Council’s environment team and shop the offenders so that we can stop them doing this elsewhere.”

If you have information on who may have vandalised the obelisk call 020 8379 1000 or report online at
