Park face lift starts on Monday

Ponders End Recreation Ground is going to be transformed as part of a £997,000 makeover aimed at making it a nicer and safer place for families to enjoy.
The toilets and railings at the front will be removed to open up access to the park, and a spectacular arching fountain will be built.
There will be extensive tree planting - including white cherry trees around the bandstand, a 'peace tree', a permanent Christmas tree that will be strung with lights every year and an avenue of trees from different countries.
Work will also be done to install a cycleway through the park between Ponders End High Street and South Street and create new entrances on the eastern side of the park so residents from the Alma Estate can get into the park more easily.
Pop-up power sockets will be installed to enable markets and events to be held there and new lighting to make park users feel safer and highlight architectural features such as the bandstand. A major programme of planting will also be undertaken which will help reduce maintenance costs for the council. The park will be officially renamed Ponders End Park.
Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Chris Bond, said: "Our parks are fantastic facilities for the whole family to enjoy, but we're never complacent and we want to make them better whenever we can.
"Working with local residents, the park is a wonderful example of what good team work is all about. It will be a focal point for the community being able now to have local events that the community want, and everyone involved should be congratulated'
