GCSEs take leap from last year
Published Saturday, 27 August 2011
This year’s GCSE results show that the proportion of pupils achieving 5 A*-C including English and mathematics at grades C and above has improved by 4.4% from the 55.3% achieved last year.
The main improvement is that 81.2% of pupils achieved 5 or more A* - C which is an increase of 7.1% percentage points on the 2010 result.
Also Chace Community's results for 5 A*-C including English and mathematics has been amended to 52%.
Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said "All our young people and teachers should be rightly proud of this year’s achievements."
"We have now seen improvements for five years in a row in Enfield. (Nationally this year there has also been an improvement from 69% in 2010 to 69.8% in 2011). The main improvement is that 81.2 % of pupils achieved 5 or more A* - C."
"Enfield Council is delighted to see the impact of our Secondary Strategy, the hard work of our young people and schools is now being seen in these continually improving results."
There are still schools that are waiting for results from other examinations that are equivalent to GCSEs and therefore we do expect these results to change. The final results will be published nationally in the Achievement and Attainment Tables in January 2012

Results taken from the Achievement and Attainment Tables for 2010. The Enfield figure includes results from non-maintained schools in the authority.
- These results are provisional and will not be confirmed by the DfE and examination boards until January 2012. This is normal procedure and is a national system that allows for appeals to be made before the results are finalised.
- Some Enfield schools have outstanding results and may also have lodged appeals with examination boards where unexpected results have been received. Again this is normal procedure and the results of the appeals will adjust the results when they are confirmed nationally.
