Published Monday, 27 June 2011

The Director of Public Health for Enfield Council, Dr Shahed Ahmad handed out a special prescription for fitness to residents of the borough last Saturday when he joined a special parkrun at Pymmes Park in Edmonton.

He joined other runners to promote the parkrun scheme, which happens every Saturday in parks all over London. In Enfield Pymmes and Grovelands Park have signed up to the scheme.

To register you can go to www.parkrun.com where a barcode can be downloaded which will be scanned at the end of every run to get a time and position which can provide a weekly log of progress.

Dr Shahed Ahmad said "I really enjoyed my first parkrun. They are great as people of all levels of fitness and abilities can join in, and running is great for reducing weight, reducing blood pressure and generally keeping fit.

"Lots of people came and had a really great time."

Cllr Christine Hamilton, Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing and Public Health said "The parkrun takes place in both Pymmes Park in Edmonton and Grovelands Park every Saturday at 9.00am, and anyone can join in no matter how good you are at running.

"It's best to register before you go along, but you can turn up on the day and make new friends who are also enthusiastic about running and keeping fit. Why not go along next week and find out more?"
