Enfield's Mayor, Cllr Christiana During, cut a giant Fairtrade banana cake at Edmonton Library on Saturday 4th June to celebrate Enfield being one of 1,000 Fair Trade Towns worldwide.

Members of Enfield Council's Fairtrade Steering Group supported the Mayor and Fairtrade by serving the cake along with Fairtrade tea, coffee, juices, chocolate cookies, bananas and information about Fairtrade to over 100 local parents and children.

Enfield became a Fair Trade Borough in September 2008 after a campaign by the Steering Group to persuade shops, caterers, voluntary organisations, colleges and public sector bodies across the borough to stock and use fairly traded products.

Enfield Mayor, Councillor Christiana During, said "As Mayor of Enfield, it gives me great pleasure to be here with everybody to support Fairtrade in the borough and as one of 1,000 Fairtrade towns worldwide.

"Enfield has over 140 cafes and shops that sell Fairtrade products and this ensures that some of the world's poorest people are able to benefit and have better lives. It's a truly excellent achievement for Enfield"
