Published Thursday, 28 April 2011
One of Enfield Council’s clients, Barry Churchill, who is supported through the Learning Disabilities Services at St Andrews Court was celebrating this week as he returned from the National Special Olympics Tournament sporting four medals!
The Olympics were held in Crewe on the weekend of 16/17th April.
Barry, who has been a regular table tennis player for 8 years, was invited to play at this special tournament. His performance was exceptional, and he scored one bronze and three gold medals.
Barry said "I never thought that I would win a gold on my first try."
Instead of just one, Barry started steadily with a bronze on the Saturday, only for the floodgates to open on Sunday when he won three golds in a row.
Barry hopes to follow up this amazing success; he said "I really want to play for Great Britain."
