Council gives more power to local people

Enfield Councillors gave the thumbs up for a new people power project at a Cabinet meeting this week.
Council Leader, Cllr Doug Taylor hailed the £2.1 mil scheme as clear signal that the authority is determined to meet local aspirations and tackle inequality in provision in Enfield.
He said: "We promised to tackle social inequality in Enfield and we are delivering. This scheme will empower residents for the first time in Enfield to be directly involved at the coal face in making choices on how their money is spent in their neighbourhood. It's People Power in action."
The Enfield Residents' Priority Fund is shared across all the borough's 21 wards.
However the £2.1mil shared according to the levels of deprivation based on independently sourced statistics.
Cllr Taylor said: "We are a one borough Council, but life expectancy, unemployment, educational attainments, crime and grime, for example, are dramatically different in different wards. T
"This fund will give more support to the areas with greatest need. But this is only a small part of the Council's overall budget and we need to serve all residents.
"I have no doubt that many people all over Enfield are struggling to make ends meet which is why we will be freezing Council tax and delivering quality value for money services with dramatically less money as a result of the Government cuts."
