Moving on Event gives advice for young people
Published Monday, 17 January 2011
Parents and carers of all disabled young people aged 14 and over are invited to a welcoming and informative event happening at the end of January.
Date - Tuesday 25th January 2011
Time - 10.00am till 5.00pm
Venue - Southbury Leisure Centre, Southbury Road, Enfield, EN1 1YP
The day, which is a mixture of information and entertainment, will tell you all about the transition journey which supports the change from children's to adult services.
It also explores independent living options; as there are a range of different choices available in Enfield to enable people to live independently.
Young people themselves will be represented, with a number of groups from our special schools that will be doing a small presentation between 1.00pm and 2.00pm.
Cllr Don McGowen, Cabinet Member for Health & Adult Social Care said "When a young disabled person moves between children's and adult social services in Enfield it is a time of great change.
"They may have to move between professionals, and have to attend different centres. They could also be entitled to different care packages. This event is ideal for parents and carers of young people to attend to find out what changes might be around the corner for their family member as they approach adulthood.
"There will be professionals there representing both children's and adult social services, and also young people from our special schools. It will be a very informative day."
