Millfield is a gigantic success

Published Thursday, 13 January 2011

This year’s Millfield pantomime, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ was a resounding success with over 20,000 tickets sold to delighted audiences who enjoyed the great special effects, a lively young cast and a superb dame in seasoned entertainer, Neil Wright, returning for a second year.

Writer / director, Marc Day ensured that the whole show was produced in-house and this will set the trend for future pantomimes.

Marc said, "Pantomimes are wonderful community events and for children they are probably their first taste of live theatre. This year's show was particularly exciting to produce now that the theatre has some new facilities when it was modernised in 2009.

"We have been fortunate in our casting and staging. Neil Wright was outrageous, charming and funny - indeed a great dame and our baddie, James Lavender, was really bad.

"We have received rave reviews in local and professional papers and this is good news for local audiences."

Cllr Bambos Charalambous, cabinet member for arts & culture, said, "Since its refurbishment, Millfield Theatre is reaching out to local people with great acts, local theatre performances and of course its annual pantomime.

"In April there will be more to celebrate when Millfield House is fully refurbished offering dance, drama and music courses for all ages and abilities."

Tickets are now on sale for next year's pantomime 'Beauty and the Beast' box office 020 8807 6680.
