London Borough of Enfield

Register now, vote later

Published Tuesday, 23 November 2010

Next Wednesday 1st December is the publication date of the new electoral list for Enfield. Residents who want to check that they are on the list should call 020 8379 8582.

Council Leader Doug Taylor said, "The publication of a new register takes place every year and it is worth checking if you are unsure whether you are on it. Next year voters will be asked to take part in a referendum on adopting new ways to vote and this could have far reaching effects for future elections."

Elections manager Peter Stanyon added, "We have had a good response to our canvass this year - the highest for ten years with over 88% of households providing the necessary information, with forms still arriving.

"When we publish the new register, we expect to add another 4,000 names to the list - and we shall be removing 2,500 names of those that have not responded over the last two years.  We are writing to those electors to warn them they will be unable to vote unless they contact us.

"The register will be updated every month next year, but our advice is to register as soon as possible - and not leave this until an election is very near - if you are not on the register you cannot vote in an election or a referendum."
