Crowds Walk on Wild side for Food Walk

Published Monday, 11 October 2010

On Saturday over 50 people gathered at Trent Park to join a special Wild Food walk to learn how to survive in remote countryside.

Led by Andy Jones, former Trent Park Ranger, and Alan Mitellas from the Parks Outreach Team, members of the public who joined in learned vital skills on how to forage for food and hunt for animals.

After the walk visitors were treated to nettle tea, elderflower wine and an opportunity to taste rabbit.
Alan Mitellas, Parks Outreach Officer said "Many of the people who came on the walk were fascinated about how abundant nature is in providing us with food. The secret is knowing where to look.

"Andy showed our visitors some skills they would need to find food in the wild, and more importantly what berries and plants to avoid.

"It was a really exciting day, and everyone enjoyed themselves."
