Published Tuesday 10th August 10
Make a special date to visit this year’s Autumn Show on Saturday & Sunday 4th and 5th September from 10.30am – 6pm at Enfield Town Park, EN3 where there really is something for all ages to enjoy.
Cllr Bambos Charalambous, cabinet member for youth, leisure, culture and Olympics, said, "Without a doubt this is a weekend that brings together arts, entertainment, fun for children and families and celebrates the talents of local people. With stalls, information and details about local activities the Enfield Autumn Show is an unmissable weekend in the life of our borough."
The Autumn Show is Enfield's biggest annual community festival and now in its 57th year, it is back with a musical bang with the 'The Beat' who rose to fame in the early 80s with their fusion of ska and reggae.
They are headlining a great musical mix that includes: London-based performer and songwriter Kate Carr, Ninja folk band Victor Menace, West African & electro-pop band AJ Holmes and the Hackney Empire and boogie blues artist Toby Barelli known as King Size Slim.
Hear the traditional sound of the remote equatorial villages brought to life by voodoo king Nickens Nkoso of Kasaï Masaï, while DJ Trailer Trash will be playing throughout the day.
See some traditional Greek & Turkish dancing, as well as dance and music from local groups including a belly dancing group, and watch circus and street performer Kwabana Lindsey in action.
Enjoy local horticulture and crafts and the farm animals from the Wellgate Community Farmyard.
In the horticultural marquee, you can view a selection of local crafts, flowers, vegetables and cooking - or even enter something of your own!
Entries will be on display throughout each day and will be judged by professionals. Prizes will be presented to the winners by the Mayor at the end of the weekend.
Take part in a variety of activities: tea dance workshops, art workshops and toddler Olympics for young children.
Cllr Del Goddard, chair of the Enfield Leisure Partnership summed up, "The Enfield Autumn Show brings all of Enfield together - the council, local communities, voluntary sector, charities and businesses against a background of celebration and enjoyment. Come and find out about local and council services, get a taste for a new pastime or enjoy some exciting entertainment -it's a great weekend."
