Summer Work Out gets school leavers fit for the future

Published Tuesday, 10 August 2010

Are you leaving school or college this summer without a job or place in further education to go to? Are you trying to work out what to do next? Would you like to spend the summer working outdoors and getting paid for it?

Enfield Council's Summer Work Out can help you get fit for your future. There are 60 paid work experience places for Enfield school leavers.

You can apply for a four week, paid work experience placement in a number of roles at the Council and its partner organisations. You could find yourself planting shrubs with our parks department, helping with stage management at Millfield Theatre, organising events at Forty Hall, or supporting administration.

The Summer Work Out programme is a pathway into future employment. At the end of the placement the Council will offer you support through its job brokerage service.

Cllr Del Goddard, Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Improving Localities, said, "You hear so much today about how young people in particular are being hit by the recession. In our role as community leaders it's vital that the Council gives our young people every opportunity to succeed.

"The Summer Work Out programme offers young people a chance to think about what they want to do next and a taste of life at work. I'd encourage as many school and college leavers as possible to reach out and grab the opportunities on offer."

Leader of the Council, Cllr Doug Taylor said, "This is a great opportunity for 60 young people to gain valuable experience and get a foot on the career ladder."

19 year old Charlotte Neil was on last year's programme and worked in the box office at Millfield Theatre. "I really enjoyed my placement," she said. "To get paid for work experience was great. The Enfield Workout has boosted my CV massively and I'd definitely recommend the programme to other young people who are trying to work out what to do next."
