The Mayor's Poetry Competition 2010

Enfield’s Mayor, Cllr Jayne Buckland is backing poetry with an important new competition for unpublished poems.
As part of this year's charity fundraising for the arts, this competition aims to attract entries from all over the world and Mayor Buckland is appealing to everyone over 16 to enter and be a part of the 'Creative Enfield' initiative.
The competition is sponsored by local chemical company Fisher Research Limited and London waste who are providing prizes of £500 for the winner, £200 second and £100 for third place.
A special £50 prize will also be made for the best poem about the London borough of Enfield.

Mayor Buckland, said, "This competition is open to anyone aged over 16. Young poets, new poets and established poets - all are invited to take part. Entry is £3 per poem but £10 for four. Additional poems are £2 per entry.
"I want to see this competition developed as a regular part of the mayoral year attracting new accomplished writing and supporting the arts. Our judge, Enfield resident, Mario Petrucci is an acclaimed poet and scientist.
"His work has garnered wide critical success and his frequent contributions to BBC arts programmes make him one of the leading poets of his generation. Critics are agreed about the intensity of his writing and we are thrilled that he will be the adjudicator."

Notes to editors
Mario Petrucci was poet - in -residence at the Imperial War Museum until 2007. He is a prolific writer, teacher, educator and broadcaster.
His books include: 'Shrapnel and Sheets', 'Bosco',' Heavy Water', 'Flowers of Sulphur', 'Chernobyl' and serious poems about Chernobyl and other scientific subjects.
