Making life easier for the over 65s

Published Thursday, 01 July 2010

Enfield residents aged 65 and over, who have not already registered for this service, can now get some extra support when they register with the council’s ‘prevention intervention’ team for a general health and well-being assessment.

From Friday 2nd July to Friday 26th November 2010 the team will be at Morrisons on the A10, 333 Southbury Road, Enfield, Middx, EN1 1TW, where residents can have a brief assessment and register for the ongoing support service. This is only on the FIRST and LAST Friday of each month.

The full dates are:
2nd & 30th July
6th & 27th August
3rd & 24th September
1st & 29th October
5th & 26th November

After assessments all clients are contacted every three months to check their well being, and offered further information on services to help them stay physically and socially active to maintain their quality of life, plus advice on how to remain safe in their homes.

Occupational Therapy Assistants will be conducting the assessments, and will be offering information to residents on improving their well-being, as well as handing out free aids and gadgets to those whose assessments show they need it.

Long-handled reachers, sponges and brushes with dustpans are just a few of the aids that will be available to help prevent falls and keep people safer in their homes. By registering with the 'prevention intervention' team, those that sign up will also be contacted regularly about their well-being, and offered support and information on an ongoing basis.

Cllr Don McGowan, Cabinet Member for Older People and Adult Social Services said "As more people grow older it is important that we do all we can to help them maintain independence and stay in their own home for as long as possible.

"By registering with our 'prevention intervention' team residents over 65 can be assured of getting support when they need it, and have the reassurance of knowing that they have our team to check on their well being.

"Why not pop into Morrisons to have a chat to the team and find out more?"

The team will be meeting local residents between 10am and 4pm
