Enfield Council wins procurement award

Published Tuesday, 24 November 2015

Enfield Council announced this week that it had won a category in the 2015 'Small Business Friendly Borough Awards', run by the London Region of the Federation of Small Businesses and London Councils.

Enfield triumphed in the ‘Best Small Business Friendly Procurement’ category, which celebrated council procurement activities that have enabled small businesses to gain access to public sector and other local contracts.

The council’s bid promoted the use of local small sustainable suppliers through contract procedure rules; this means that all purchases for goods or services made by Enfield Council must contain at least one local supplier quote, going up in number as the value increases. This works towards the Enfield 2020 sustainability vision to support jobs and businesses, making Enfield a better place to live, work and visit.

The authority also works alongside small local businesses to ensure that they are fully trained in how to do business with the council.

Judges at the ceremony commented that Enfield provided a ‘strong bid’ as they made the announcement.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Business Development, Cllr Alan Sitkin, said: “Local businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, and Enfield works hard to ensure that our smaller suppliers are aware of how to do successful business with us, and are encouraged to do so.

“Hearing that we have won this category is a real thumbs up for the local economy, and is a testament to the hard work going on behind the scenes to help our local businesses prosper.”
