Enfield Council has launched a campaign in partnership with the Metropolitan Police this week to combat vehicle crime in the borough.

The Safe Enfield campaign offers simple but effective advice to drivers to help them stop potential thieves and prevent their cars from being stolen or broken into.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Organisations and Culture, Cllr Yasemin Brett, said: “The vast majority of car crime is opportunistic and preventable and luckily there are some really simple things you can do to prevent your car from being targeted.

“It’s a real pain if your car is broken into or stolen, not only is it inconvenient, but it can also cost you a small fortune, cause you to miss work and cancel what you had planned for that day to sort out the mess. It has a big effect on people.”

Our top tips to keep your vehicle safe are:
- remove devices such as laptops, phones and i-pads from the vehicle and keep car keys in a safe place
- Marking valuables in the car with your house number and postcode
- When leaving the vehicle always close all windows and the sunroof, and activate any security devices or alarms
- Park in a well-lit place with care, especially at night

Never:
- Leave cash, credit cards, mobile phones, vehicle documents or any other valuable in the car
- Leave your keys unattended, even for a second
