Published Tuesday, 20 October 2015

Enfield Council is urging parents to apply for a secondary school places before the 31 October deadline to ensure they don’t miss out on a school of their choice.

Parents who want their children to do well in secondary education can choose an Enfield school with confidence, in the knowledge that all schools in the borough are on a mission to help pupils succeed – and 89% of them have been rated ‘Good’ or outstanding by Ofsted.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council’s Cabinet member for Education, Children’s Services and Protection, said, “Parents can apply online here which is the fastest way. Parents who apply after the 31 October deadline run the risk of missing out on a school of their choice.

“In March this year more than 96% of Enfield children, whose parents applied by the deadline, were offered a place at one of their preferred six secondary schools. First preferences at 92% this year were up by 4.48% on the 88.42% figure for all London.

“Overall 93.5% of first, second and third choices in Enfield were met – so please get your applications in to avoid disappointment

“All Enfield secondary schools are well equipped to teach the full range of subjects with specialist classrooms, expert teachers and innovation in all fields. Secondary schools have also worked on particular expertise becoming designated for a learning focus such as arts and drama; business studies; sports and science.

This year examination success has seen; two out of every three pupils gaining five or more GCSEs, at grade C or above - and a pass rate of 98% at A- level where more than half of all entrants gained A*- B grades and 75% have achieved A*- C

Vocational courses are also studied qualifying young people to go on to many different careers; and careers advice is encouraging young people to consider apprenticeships which are widely supported by Enfield Council.

“These excellent achievements reflect the exceptional work of teaching staff and students. Our hardworking young people are succeeding in many activities taking part in after school clubs and pop-up learning events, debating competitions and dance festivals.”
