Bambos urges armchair fans to live the dream

Published Wednesday, 09 June 2010

Enfield Council’s new leisure champion urged armchair football fans to make the most of World Cup fever and get back to Football this week.

Councillor Bambos Charalambous, Chelsea supporter and new cabinet member for young people, culture, leisure, sports and the Olympics said: "Like most England fans I will be dreaming of Rio Ferdinand lifting the Jules Rimet trophy on 11 July.

"It would make the perfect treble for me after Chelsea's premiership and FA Cup victories. Every time I watch the World Cup or Chelsea, I dream of playing the beautiful game but never get around to actually do it.

"However, after hearing of the Council's new Get Back to Football scheme it has made me think again."

Cllr Charalambous was talking about Enfield Council's Sports Development team's Get Back to football programme

From 10 June to 15 July on Thursday evenings at Enfield Grammar School, the team's qualified coaches will be on hand to organise a structured soccer sessions for adults who have not played for some time or not at all.

Cllr Charalambous said: "These sessions are perfect for someone like me whose skills are a bit rusty but would like to play again.

"After a while you could be living your soccer dreams out on the pitch.  In my mind's eye I will be Enfield's answer to Frank Lampard, lashing home a cross by Cole to win the cup for England!"
