Health and Care offer great careers

Published Friday, 17 April 2015

Over 60 young people found out about jobs and careers in the health and care sector at a special event arranged by Enfield Council’s Progression and Pathways team.

At this first event focussing on the vast range of health and care jobs, the young people aged 16 plus from Enfield County, Chace Community, Oasis Academy Hadley and Edmonton County schools  will gain an understanding of the different routes into the health professions and all about the qualifications they will need.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Children’s Services & Protection said, “There is a demand for more people to work in this sector and young people need to know what is available. This will be a stimulating event packed full of information and enthusiastic presentations from people who work in these professions.”

Angela Dempsey, the secondary care nurse member from the of NHS Enfield Clinical Commissioning Group’s Governing Body is introducing the event.

She said, “We need energetic young people to join the health and caring professions. There is something to suit most skills and interests.

“Our local NHS relies on an enormous work force to ensure that we really can deliver a first class service from medicine and nursing to administration, pharmacy, reception and catering. The first step is to find out what is happening where you live.”

Students will also be able to attend three workshops that explain how they can make a start on a choice of careers in nursing and health care; apprenticeships and NHS careers, as well as visiting stalls for further advice and guidance.

Cllr Orhan, concluded, “This is an exciting time for young people to consider how they can be part of a vital workforce in their community.

“Whether it is about visiting and checking on older people; learning to train in a medical profession such as doctors, dentists, dieticians; understanding good and sympathetic customer service as a receptionist; preparing food; working with children; supporting people through difficult times; or learning about becoming a paramedic - the scope and opportunities are far reaching, interesting and rewarding.”
