Police officers were forced to smash the window of a car and drag the driver out after a chase through Southbury.

Enfield Council’s CCTV operators spotted a stolen BMW driving along Lea Valley Road at 1.40am on 5 March and alerted police, three police units caught up with the driver at traffic lights on the A10, and one police officer was forced to dodge the driver as he tried to accelerate away.

With the car hemmed in police officers managed to smash the driver’s side window and stop him escaping.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, Cllr Chris Bond, said: “This is a brilliant result and I’m delighted we’ve been able to help the police catch a car thief. Our CCTV operators will continue to be vigilant and do everything they can to help reunite the owners of stolen cars with their vehicles.”
