Shaping New Southgate

Published Thursday, 01 April 2010

Residents can pick up a copy of the masterplan and consultation questionnaire from local venues such as Gina’s Bakery (366 Bowes Road), Bright and Klean Dry Cleaners (32 Friern Barnet Road), New Southgate Food and Wine (137-141 High Road), and the Bowes Road Library.

The masterplan will set out all of the council's plans for the area including things like new housing, the Ladderswood Estate regeneration, local shops, and improvements to open spaces, community facilities, parking and transport.

We have held a series of workshops and events since last September to gather the views of local people on the changes they want to see to the area, and we are now holding mini exhibitions in and around New Southgate throughout April and planning a community fun day from 1pm-4pm on Saturday 15 May at St Paul's Church Hall.

Details of when and where to see the roving masterplan exhibition are as follows:

Palmers Road Tuesday 6 April 3pm-6.30pm
Bowes Road Monday 12 April 3pm-6.30pm (near Arnos Grove tube station)
The Bombie (Grove Road Open Space) opposite St Paul's Church Hall Tuesday 13 April 3pm-6.30pm

So far the main issues that people have said are important to them are: parking, road safety, quality of housing, nice open spaces, good play facilities, less anti-social behaviour, more activities for young people, more community facilities and the quality of the environment.

Sue Foster OBE, Enfield Council's Director of Place Shaping and Enterprise said, "We have had some really good feedback from the community so far and we want to make sure that as many people as possible have a chance to have their say on the future of the area. I would urge people to come along to the event on 15th May and look out for the roving exhibition over the coming months."

Once the consultation period is over, we will look at all the comments received and make changes to the plan. We will then let the community know how their feedback has been incorporated and what changes have been made. We hope to publish the final masterplan in December 2010 along with a detailed delivery strategy.
