Love in the Air at Valentine's Disco

Published Wednesday, 18 February 2015

‘Wanna Be Friends’, part of the ‘Learning for Life Charity’, held a disco with music and dancing at Forty Hall on Valentine’s Day, supported by Enfield Council, which saw over 200 young people with special needs coming together to make new friends within their local area.

The event was organised to get teens with special needs out in the community to meet others of their own age and encourage wider social support networks. The event tackled the reality felt by many disabled people who report feeling isolated, and who find it difficult to socialise and build relationships.

Cllr Rohini Simbodyal, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport, Youth and Public Health said “This event was a huge success, and all the young people who attended had a really enjoyable time.

“The choice of Forty Hall as a venue was ideal; children, parents and volunteers commented upon the grandeur, which made the event extra-special, and the accessibility of the Hall.

“Many of the parents and carers were leaving their young people for the very first time, so this was a particularly momentous and poignant occasion for everyone involved”.
