Everyone for tennis
Published Thursday, 01 April 2010
Four new local tennis leagues, each linked to a set of park courts, are being launched in April. Based at Albany Park, EN3, Broomfield Park N13, Bush Hill Park, EN1, and the courts at Church Street N9 these new league matches aim to make competitive tennis available to adults playing on local park courts.
Leagues are mixed (men and women) singles, and will suit players looking for competitive practice, those who want to meet new people to play and everyone who simply wants to improve - matches are the ideal way to do this.
Players who sign up are organised into groups of about seven, contact details are circulated, then it is up to everyone to get in touch with each other and arrange a mutually convenient time to play over an eight week period.
Entry costs are £10. Players who complete three matches before the half way point are posted a free tube of tennis balls. The winner of each group receives £20 and a winner's certificate.
Sally Kinnes, co-founder of 'Local Tennis Leagues' says: "Parks have great facilities and often excellent opportunities for children, but adult players can miss out. By giving a structure to their tennis, we are encouraging more people to play the sport. It is great fun and the best way to improve at the game."
Jan Hickman, sports development manager, added, "Tennis is a great way to get fit and enjoy the open. This is just one of the many activities being organised in our Everybody Active programme. Most of all I hope people will enjoy their competitions."
The four 'Everybody Active' Enfield leagues will run from Monday 19 April to Sunday 13 June and the deadline to join is 12 April.
