CCTV Round up

Published Wednesday, 28 January 2015

Here is a round up of some of the work done by the Council's CCTV operators in the last week

Suspected drunk driver arrested

A suspected drunk driver was arrested after he was spotted driving erratically by an Enfield Council CCTV operator.

The operator witnessed a black vehicle driving excessively fast and veering across the Hertford Road on 20 January, police were alerted and the driver was stopped, breathalysed and arrested for failing a breath test.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, Cllr Chris Bond, said: "Drink driving is incredibly irresponsible and if convicted leads to an automatic driving ban for 12 months, I'd urge residents not to drink and drive because the best outcome they can hope for is being stopped by the police before they run over and kill somebody."

Punch up recorded for evidence purposes

Enfield Council's CCTV cameras have recorded evidence of a fight in Edmonton after receiving reports of a fight between two men.

The operators monitored the incident in Bedevere Road, Edmonton,  on 25 January in which one man assaulted a second who was lying behind a wall. Police arrived and arrested the aggressor, while the victim was taken to hospital with head injuries.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, Cllr Chris Bond said: "This is an excellent example of how the council's CCTV system can help to gather evidence when a crime is taking place. I hope the perpetrator of this disgusting assault is given a sentence that will act as a proper deterrent."
