Enfield Council welcomes station improvement programme

Published Wednesday, 28 January 2015

A Transport for London (TfL) project which will see several stations in the borough upgraded and improved has been welcomed by Enfield Council.

TfL's London Overground service will be extended to Enfield from May 2015, covering  Silver Street, Edmonton Green, Bush Hill Park, Enfield Town, Southbury and Turkey Street stations.

Enfield Council has lobbied hard for these changes and passengers will see several immediate improvements, including more staff at stations. Further enhancements will be introduced in the following months, bringing  each of the stations up to the standards enjoyed by the rest of the Overground network. Finally, in 2018, a new fleet of trains will come into operation.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, Cllr Chris Bond, said: "I'm delighted work will soon start on improving stations in Enfield. We don't have great underground links to the centre of London so it's vital our Overground stations are fit for purpose and these improvements will very much improve the environment in our stations and make life easier for travellers.

"We will continue to stand up for the rights of commuters and other travellers to ensure that our residents can get around Enfield and beyond quickly, easily and enjoyably."
