free fitness classes in parks

Residents are invited to sign up for free group exercise classes in four of the borough’s parks.

The Our Parks scheme runs from 31 January until 5 April, offering the chance to take part in a number of different exercises to improve health and wellbeing.

Residents can log on to the website and book hour-long sessions led by qualified instructors at three different levels. Green offers residents a gentle or light workout, blue classes are light to moderate with black – the hardest – being moderate to intense training.

Parks involved in the pilot scheme include Jubilee Park, Ponders End Park, Pymmes Park and Town Park.

The Our Parks initiative comes to the borough following a successful pilot programme across East and North London. All classes in Enfield are funded by the council to encourage residents to be more active.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport, Youth and Public Health, Cllr Rohini Simbodyal said: “The health of our residents is always important to us, so we fully welcome Our Parks to the borough. It offers a wonderful opportunity for participants to exercise for free with professional instructors. Running over a 10 week period, we would like to encourage everyone at all levels of fitness to take part.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, Cllr Chris Bond, said: ”We’re determined to make our parks as accessible as possible to the widest possible audience and projects like these are invaluable in not only doing that but also encouraging them to get more active and healthier.”

Classes include back to exercise, box fit, circuits, and tone zone to keep those New Years resolutions going and get a park body.

You must be aged 16 or over to attend a class alone. Children over the age of 3 can attend sessions when accompanied by an adult or with permission from a parent or guardian.
