Published Wednesday, 21 January 2015

Enfield Council has announced this week that it has been shortlisted for three coveted Local Government Chronicle (LGC) awards.

The awards represent recognition for hard-working officers, councillors, local residents and other partners who have shown that local solutions can help boost efficiency and improve services for residents.

Cllr Achilleas Georgiou, Enfield Council’s Deputy Leader said “We are proud to have been shortlisted for three awards from the LGC. All of these shortlisted projects are showcasing the unique solutions that Enfield Council is using to tackle growing issues that confront us every day, such as the shortage of affordable housing, the lack of real jobs for local people and the encouragement of empowerment to local residents.

“Here at Enfield we think outside the box, and hope that the LGC recognise this innovative thinking and the solutions and benefits it brings to everyone in our borough.”

The three awards are:

Entrepreneurial Council of the Year – ‘The Enfield Experiment’ saw Enfield Council using its own assets to generate benefits for the community and using partnership working to generate income; and secure jobs and income from major companies working in Enfield.

Housing Initiative –Enfield is meeting its housing challenges through a range of innovative initiatives including buying homes through the council’s own company; Housing Gateway Ltd;  improving the standard of available housing; and building new affordable homes.

Community Involvement – ‘Involving Enfield Residents’ shows how the Council is developing resilient communities and giving local people more opportunities to influence the issues that matter to them and shape the environment in which they live. It focuses on projects that enable service users and their families to shape and monitor services that support and empower local people to provide advice and support in their neighbourhoods and across the Borough.

The next stage is to make presentations to judging panels in the week beginning 26th January setting out why the applications should win the awards.

Results will be announced at the LGC Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 11th March.
