And residents living in Enfield Lock can now look forward to a brand new purpose- built centre.

The library and the community hall will open to the public on Monday 15 December, the GP surgery opens on Monday 5 January 2015 and dental services start a few weeks later.

Called the Ordnance Unity Centre, it is Enfield Council’s unique building offering four major services to the public.

This multi-million development was built in just over a year and is fully equipped to serve the needs of the local population.

It replaces the old Ordnance Road Library, Kettering Community Hall and the Ordnance Road GP surgery, while the community dentist offers specialist treatment for referred patients in the north east of the borough.

Enfield Council and the NHS worked with local residents and patients groups to agree designs and plans for the building which allows each service to operate independently.

Story boards around the perimeter of the site updated local people on building progress and provided opportunities for comments.

The contractor, GRAHAM Construction, also invited local young people to get involved offering regular visits to the building site.

Cllr Ozzie Uzoanya, Associate Cabinet member for Enfield North, said, “This wonderful building is now a reality. Occupying a prominent position at the junction of two major roads it really is at the heart of a community and is easily accessible.

“With careful attention to landscaping outside and defined areas inside for each independent service, this centre fulfils a great need in Enfield Lock. It has been welcomed with huge enthusiasm by the people who live here and will become an indispensable community building for people of all ages to use and enjoy.”

Jonathan Hall, Construction Director of GRAHAM Construction said: "We are tremendously proud to have played our part in delivering this excellent facility for the community in Enfield.”
Haverstock Healthcare Ltd won the contract from NHS England to provide GP services at the Ordnance Unity Centre.

This award-winning coalition of 26 GP surgeries has pledged to offer care services tailored to its patients’ needs.

The group has strong links with clinical partners that include: Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Free Hospital.

Dr Mike Smith, Chief Executive of Haverstock Health said, “We are delighted to be awarded this contract and to be part of an exciting new venture in creating a community health and wellbeing hub in this diverse, vibrant and multicultural area.

“We were founded on the principles of being led and owned by GPs, driven by improving quality and having a strong patient focus. We will create a great GP practice that preserves the much loved values of a family doctor, whilst using innovation and patient engagement to eliminate some of the frustrations.”
