Bush Hill Park free cycle scheme gains momentum

Published Wednesday, 03 December 2014

Over 100 members have signed up to a new cycling scheme, the oldest aged 84, which was organised by Enfield Council. The Inclusive Cycling Scheme, which was set up in Bush Hill Park in June this year has now gone from strength to strength.

The free cycling scheme which is funded by Enfield Council, has regular as well as specially adapted bikes, and allows those who are disabled, have learning difficulties or those whose age may make ordinary bikes difficult, the freedom to cycle through the beautiful surroundings of Bush Hill Park.

New people are joining up every week, but more are always welcomed!

This week Cllr Chris Bond, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety went to Bush Hill Park to see the scheme for himself.

Cllr Bond said “As part of the wider Cycle Enfield project we are looking to ensure that all residents get an equal chance to get on their bikes, regardless of age or disability.

“The Bush Hill Park Inclusive Cycling Scheme is fantastic as it allows whole families to cycle together, get out into our beautiful green spaces, and feel confident on a bike, sometimes for the first time. I would urge as many people as possible to come along and see for themselves just how much fun this is.”

Peter Cripps, from Bush Hill Park, a regular user of the service said ” The staff were very good at helping me as I have not been riding bikes for 17 years. I am 84 years old and this scheme has enabled me to get back on a regular bike. With a bit of encouragement it all just came back to me”.

The scheme is open all year round (weather permitting) from Tuesday to Friday (inclusive) from 10.30am-1.30pm.

To contact the Inclusive Cycling Scheme please ring 0208 379 2445 Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 3.30pm to register and book for free.
