Gate widening improves access at Forty Hall

Published Tuesday, 07 October 2014

This week work will begin on the historic gates at Forty Hall as they are widened to improve access for larger vehicles.

The gates, which are grade II listed and built in the 18th century, will be reinstated with the pillars further apart.

While the piers are repositioned there will be a short period of limited access due to the construction works, heavy machinery and public safety requirements. The works have been planned to avoid the school run and busy hours to minimise disruption wherever possible.

Cllr Chris Bond, Cabinet Member for Environment said "These Grade II listed gates have suffered a lot of damage over the years as the entrance is very tight, especially for larger service vehicles trying to gain entry.

“This gate widening scheme is part of the larger improvements to Forty Hall Park. It has received wide approval from the public who are anxious to protect the heritage of the hall and its grounds.

“Enfield Council apologise for any inconvenience experienced whilst we restore the nationally significant Forty Hall Estate.”
