Shaping New Southgate – your chance to have your say

Published Monday 8th March 10

New Southgate residents and businesses are being urged to have their say on the draft masterplan for the area, as public consultation on the proposals for the area gets underway.

The masterplan will set out all of the Council's plans for the area including things like new housing, the Ladderswood Estate regeneration, local shops, and improvements to open spaces, community facilities, parking and transport.

We have already done a lot of work with local residents and businesses to identify what the plans should include, and we want to continue to get the views of local people.

Since last September, the Council has attended a number of community events, meetings of community groups and held public workshops with the New Southgate Neighbourhood Panel, a group of local residents who want to be actively involved in shaping our plans for the area.

So far the main issues that people have said are important to them are: parking, road safety, quality of housing, nice open spaces, good play facilities, less anti-social behaviour, more activities for young people, more community facilities and the quality of the environment.

There will be a number of consultation activities going on from March 12 to June 4 2010 to give residents a chance to have their say on the proposals.

These include a drop in session at St Paul's Parish Church Hall, High Road, New Southgate, N11 on Wednesday 17 March 4.30 - 7.30pm where residents can view and discuss information about the masterplan, pick up a copy and give us your views.  Food and drink will be provided.

We'll also be running a series of mini exhibitions in the area throughout April, and are planning a family fun day in May. A newsletter will be delivered to local residents to tell them about these events.

The draft masterplan will be available to view on the Council's website at www.enfield.gov.uk/placeshaping

It will also be available in local libraries, shops and at the Civic Centre. You can also contact us to request a copy to be sent to you.

Once the consultation period is over, we will look at all the comments received and make changes to the plan. We then hope to publish the final masterplan in December 2010 along with a detailed delivery strategy to make change happen.

Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Place Shaping and Enterprise, Cllr Michael Lavender said, "The masterplan will make sure that regeneration in New Southgate happens in the right way and will contribute towards addressing the real issues that are important to local people.

"We have worked closely with residents in New Southgate to produce a draft masterplan, and we want to make sure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to tell us what they think.

"It's vital that local residents and businesses are engaged in turning our vision for New Southgate into reality."
