Freedom card renewal changes

Published Friday, 01 August 2014

People who own a Freedom Pass are being encouraged to renew their passes by post or online rather than visit their Post Office to ensure their applications are dealt with in the quickest and most ef

The Freedom Pass is provided by councils in London, including Enfield Council, to give older and disabled Londoners free travel on almost all public transport in London.

The partnership between London Councils and the Post Office for the renewal of the passes expires this year and after 31 March 2015 residents will no longer be able to renew the passes in Post Offices.

In November and December this year London Council will send a letter to pass holders whose passes expire on 31 March 2015 with a paper application form enclosed and advising them they need to renew their pass by post or online.

The letter will invite the pass holder to renew their details by either going online or returning the enclosed form to the company that manage the scheme  who will verify the details and issue the pass

For people who want renew online the letter will contain a unique verification code for the pass holder to log in and create an online account, they will also need to verify their Date of birth and the last four digits of their existing freedom pass.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, Cllr Chris Bond, said: “We want to make sure that everyone who is eligible for a Freedom Pass has one and ensures it is renewed in good time.

"That’s why residents with Freedom Passes need to be aware of the change to the renewal process, the quickest and most effective way to renew is online either in person or by enlisting the help of a loved one if necessary.

“People who don’t have access to the internet can either take advantage of our excellent libraries and use the computers there to complete the online application. Residents can also apply by post, but this takes a significantly longer period.”
