Boating lake restored

Published Wednesday, 18 June 2014

An externally funded £75,000 project by Enfield Council to restore the former boating lake in Town Park is nearing completion

The scheme was started at the park in Enfield after park users consistently said in consultations with the council that the refurbishment of the boating lake was top of their list of priorities.

The former boating lake has been closed to the public for over 20 years because water repeatedly leaked from it.

Following the feedback from park users, Enfield Council started the £75,000 and five week long project to restore the lake, reinstate public access to it, repair the leaks, and add wildlife friendly features to the area.  The scheme which will use water from the New River to keep the pond topped up, will also reduce the risk of flooding to those living close to the parks.

Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Chris Bond, said: ”We worked hand in hand with the friends of the park to complete this project after park users told us they very much valued the boating lake and wanted to see it restored to its former glory.

“I’m delighted we’ve managed to bring this much loved feature back into use for people to enjoy, we have many fantastic parks in Enfield and we are committed to providing a wide range of diverse and interesting features and activities across the borough for people to enjoy.”
